G. F. Markhus, and notified members of the council he would ask for a franchise to install a lighting system in the city. The plans of Mr. Mainland as told to citizens are to bring a line down the Payette river to furnish power to Emmett, New Plymouth, Fruitland and Payette and then when the Oxbow project is in operation he will connect these towns with that also, which will enable them to furnish power from either of the plants. There will be plenty of power from the Payette river plant for manufacturing purposes and pumping plants. He said the citizens of Payette could expect a material reduction from the present price of lights. He said he expected to have the transmission line built in July and ready to furnish power. In speaking of what would be the result if natural gas should be piped over the city, he said it would not affect him at all as where natural gas is struck it brings such an increase of population that there will be no failing off of his business. He said this has been positively shown at other places.
