PAYETTE, October 22d, 1884 LEADER: Our little town still improves. Two new buildings started this morning, with more in the near future. I have ordered a depot, but can’t say about getting the order filled; we need one here. Our freight is unloaded on the ground and gets damaged by rains and mud, making quite a drawback about shipping goods. Can’t we borrow your New Weiser depot, as report goes you are not going to need it? The school house is about completed, and we are going to dedicate it with a dance next Friday evening. Everybody invited, and we expect a big turnout. A milling and lumber company have located here, and will locate their mill and boom to-day. Others are talking of locating near Payette, and if it amounts to anything more than talk, we will have enough saw mills. Come ahead gentlemen, plenty of room left for more. Mr. Pence is pushing the Weiser ditch ahead, and will soon be there; water is what makes the farms here, and the ditches, though expensive, must be built, and the man that builds them maks a good investment.
