We have heard considerable complaint this summer from town dwellers on account of unsatisfactory water service for trees, lawns and gardens. When we look east towards the foothills and remember that an abundance of water is running along there to supply all requirements, the thought occurs that possibly our village is a few years behind the times in the management of this most important public concernment. All will admit that Payette should have the finest gardens, the grandest lawns and the most delightfully embowered dwelling places of any town in Idaho. Then where is the trouble, is it because one man depends upon another to maintain ditches and keep them full of water without reasonable compensation, or what is the matter? Wouldn’t it be a good deal better for the town to own and control enough water for all present and future requirements, construct laterals as public improvements, add to the duties of the village marshal that of water-master and have some system about the thing? This is worth thinking about and we should like to see it made an issue for the present town council to wrestle with.
