The members elect of the new town council, viz: Messrs. Coughanour, Chase, Lauer, Bartch and Pence, met at the council chamber Saturday evening, when the oath of office was administered by Clerk Reed. After the usual preliminaries the council proceeded to ballot for a presiding officer, or mayor, for the ensuing year. On the fourth ballot Mayor Coughanour was elected for his third successive term, Mr. Chase being his competitor for the honors. While no one doubts that Mr. Chase would have made a first class presiding officer, the faithful and efficient manner in which Mayor Coughanour has discharged the duties of the position during the past two years, is at once a guarantee of satisfactory conduct during another term. The new council will hold its first meeting for the regular transaction of business on Thursday evening, May 4th, at which time the usual election of village officers will take place and the standing committees will be announced.
