Last Thursday the night operator at Ontario wired Payette that a suspicious- looking gang of men, supposed to be burglars and who were presumably following the circus, were heading for Payette. Marshal Paine swore in Frank Witham and D. McIlveen as deputies and, assisted by a number of others armed with all manner and shape of weapon, prowled the streets until daylight.
