Will Be of Brick and Stone, Similar to One at Nampa— Other Improvements—Yards to Be Enlarged and Beautiful Park to Be Made. While a definite location for a site has not yet been selected, it is now practically certain that the Oregon Short line will build that much needed and much-desired new depot at Payette this summer. J. P. Congdon, chief engineer for the company, with headquarters at Pocatello, has made trips to the city on several occasions recently for the purpose of looking over the field, and it is understood that the site will be chosen within a short time. It can be stated at this time, however, that the site will be within a block of where the present depot stands and will not be any farther to the south. The location will all depend upon whether Tioga street be closed up permanently. If this be done, the new depot will sit nearly in the middle of that street; while if the street be opened, it will probably sit 80 or 90 yards to the north. The new depot will be constructed of brick with stone finish and will be of a style of architecture similar to that of the handsome one at Nampa. When it is completed the old depot will be moved to the south part of the yards and used for a freight depot. In addition to the erection of the new depot, the Short Line’s plans for improvements at Payette include the enlargement of the railroad yards to a considerable extent. The side track on the east side of the depot will be moved out about 60 feet and will be extended to the crossing at the corner of the Hinze orchard tract, while a short side track will be put in from the south end of the yards to the freight depot. The big fruit packing house and warehouses along the right of way will be moved out, so as to sit on the east side of the track after the change has been made. A beautiful park will be made at the south end of the new depot, between the east sidetrack and the main line. That is, it will be located similarly to the present park, only will be much larger as there will be considerably more room between the tracks by the new arrangement of the grounds.
