Last Thursday after noon they captured and brought to the Lowrie home three miles north east of Payette, a young brown bear about eight months old which would weigh about 100 pounds. This may sound like a fish story to find a bear in this locality, but never-the-less this is a true story for the Editor drove out that evening and saw the vicious little beast after he had been securely fastened to a tree. The young lads discovered the bear in the sage brush about two hundred yards from Mr. Lowrie's place and strange to say they decided to capture him alive. They took a quantity of rope and the dog, and proceeded in cowboy fashion with a slip-not to rope Mr. Bruin, while the dog played his part by attacking the bear from the rear. After many unsuccessful attempts one of the boys succeeded in getting the rope around his neck which started the scrap in dead earnest. They managed to keep out of his way until finely another lad got a rope around one hind leg when he was strung out from both ways until he became strangled sufficiently to allow the boys to venture near enough to add another rope or two and completely hog tie their prize. When Mr. Lowrie appeared on the scene the boys were dragging their victim, which looked more like a bale of rope than a wild beast, toward the house. After a long chain was fastened about the bear's neck and to a tree, the ropes were unwound. He is a fine specimen in good condition, but a little dangerous for a play thing, and will likely be sold to some show. The boys are quite proud of their success, and are wearing a few bandages, but declare they would just like to be turned loose in Berlin to hog-tie and bring in the Kaiser.
