Eugene 'Gene' Bishop J. Eugene "Gene" shop, 58, Fruitland, co-owner of Fruitland Electric, died March 15, 1993, in an Ontario hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Highway Assembly of God church in Fruitland, with Pastor Arlen Benson of the Assembly of God Church, Payette, officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Payette, under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Fruitland. He was born Sept. 15, 1934, at Malvern, Ark., a son of Elmer and Evelyn Schmit. He was raised and educated in Huntington Park, Calif., graduating from Huntington Park High school in 1953. He married Shirley Menning Sept. 26, 1953, in Los Angeles. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-59, with the 34th Armor Division. Gene was a member of the Ontario Elks Lodge 1690 since 1973. He was a member of the Oregon Apprenticeship Board and of the Fruitland Zoning Commission. He was co-owner of Fruitland Electric, founded in October 1980. His hobbies included motorcycle riding, boating, and traveling. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Bishop of Fruitland, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Glenn and Kerin Bishop of Fruitland, and Ken Bishop of Denver, Colo.; his mother, Evelyn Schmit of Fruitland; a sister, Ellen McCray of Hesperia, Calif.; a granddaughter, Lindsey Bishop of Boise; two step- granddaughters, Jennifer and Annette Corpe of Fruitland, and two uncles Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Fruitland.
