Mr. and Mrs. Brainard came to Payette to make their home from Ogden, Utah after Mr. Brainard had engaged in railroad work for twenty-eight years. In Payette Mr. Brainard followed the real estate business. He was a certified public accountant and served as a confidential secretary for numerous irrigation companies, drainage districts, and highway districts. For five years he served as probate judge for the county of Payette. Always identified with civic endeavor, he served as secretary for the Payette chamber of commerce, the city, county and state planning commissions at different times. As a result of his interest in education, he was elected chairman of the board of directors for Gooding college at Gooding and for two years he served as president of that institution. For two years he was a member of the general conference of that church and for four years was representative on the board of directors on missions and church extension work for the eighteenth district which covered the Northwestern states, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Philippines. He was a member of all York Rite Masonic orders including the Shrine. His wife preceded him in death in 1937. He is survived by two sons, Scott Brainard of Honolulu, and Lawrence W. Brainard of Payette, and by three grandchildren. Services were held at the Payette Methodist church Sunday afternoon under the direction of the Rev. E. R. Kaemmer and interment was at the Riverside cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Peterson-Foster funeral home and the Masonic graveside ceremony was read.
