JULIA DEAN BRAINERD IS LAID TO REST
 
Julia Dean Brainard, was born in Payson, Illinois, October 27th, 1862 and died 
in Salt Lake city, Utah, February 1st, 1932.  Her father, George Hunter, was 
allied with the Mission Institute founded by Moses Hunter, in Quincy, 
Illinois, and her mother, Mary Dean, was for a number of years a missionary in 
the West Indies, prior to her marriage.
 
Julia Dean Hunter was married to Clarence E. Brainard, July 29th, 1879 and 
they made their home in Iowa until the year 1889 when the family moved to 
Ogden, Utah, where she took an active part in church work, and civic matters, 
being one of the charter members of the Home Culture Club, which organization 
is still active.
 
In the year 1901 the family moved to Payette, Idaho where she took an active 
part in not only the development of the Payette valley, but in all church and 
civic matters.
 
In the year 1911 her husband died, but she maintained her home in Payette, and 
for a short time in Caldwell until the year 1922 she went to Manhatten, Kansas 
to live with her son, Dr. Paul P. Brainerd, but has been a frequent visitor at 
the home of E. C. S. Brainard, and her many friends.
 
She is survived by three sons, C. Dean Brainard of Wilmington, California; Dr. 
Paul P. Brainard of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Maurice W. Brainard of 
Pittsburg, Pa.; a sister, Alice Carruthers of Lynn Haven, Florida and five 
grand children, four in the family of Dr. Paul P. Brainard and Dorothy Lawson 
of Oracle, Arizona.  Three children have preceded her in death; Carrol Glenn, 
who died in infancy; Mrs. Stella Thurston in 1908 and Bessie Lawson in 1929.
 
She was for many years an active member of the First Presbyterian churches of 
Ogden, Utah and Payette, Idaho.  Took an active part in the work of the W. C. 
T. U., and for a time toured the county and state in behalf of Local Option, 
and state wide prohibition.
 
She was always interested in and assisted with numerous Musical and 
Educational enterprises.
 
Her activities were interrupted in 1923 by a stroke of Aphasia which impaired 
her speech.  Re-occurrence and increase of this difficulty was eventually the 
cause of her death.
 
She will be long remembered by her host of friends.  Interment was in 
Riverside cemetery, Payette, Idaho, February 5th, 1932.
