Funeral services will be conducted at the St. John’s Evangelical church by Rev. N. H. Farnham Friday morning at 10 o’clock. Henry Carstens was born in Schleswig Holstein, German, June 14th, 1860. He came to America at the age of 13 with his parents and the family settled in Davenport, Iowa, in 1873. From there, while still a young man, he went to Crawford county, and from there to Plainview, Nebraska, where he met his wife, Anna Dau. They were united in marriage on the 15th of July, 1886 and to this union nine children were born, eight now living. A son, John, passed away several years ago. The children are William N. and Herman of Boise; Emma Ferber, August D. Mrs. J. T. Hanigan and Edward D. of Payette; Henry T. of Seattle, Wash.; and Mrs. Frank Browning of Gypsum, Colorado, who survive him, besides his wife and one brother William Carstens of Bud Grove, Iowa, and two sisters, Mrs. Henry Hansen, Morgan, Minn.; and Mrs. Henry LaFrance, Schleswig, Iowa and nine grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Carstens came to Falk Store in 1893 to make their home in the far west. In Falk Store they lived for six years, then moving to Payette, where they have resided for the past 34 years. Mr. Carstens ran a stage route from Payette to Falk Store and later had the distinction of being the first rural carrier out of Payette, taking the mail to New Plymouth with a team and buggy. He has been on the board of directors for the Payette Irrigation Company for the past 20 years, serving in that capacity faithfully. He is a member of the Grange for which he served as treasurer, and was a faithful member of the St. John’s Evangelical church until the time of his death. He has made many friends in this city by whom he will be greatly missed.
