All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/id/idfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Cheryl Hanson ihansonb@fmtc.com June 10, 2007, 9:27 pm Payette Enterprise 5-18-1933 Payette Enterprise Payette, Idaho Thursday, May 18, 1933 HENRY CARSTENS DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS Henry Carstens, a resident of this community for many years, died at his home on river street just before midnight Monday May 15th after an illness of many months, thus removing from our midst another of the early settlers of the Payette Valley. Mr. Carstens came to this section as one of the pioneers and did his full share in developing the country as long as his health would permit. He was born in Germany June 14th, 1860 and came to America with his parents when 13 years of age, setting at that time at Davenport Iowa, and later the family moved to Denison Iowa, and from here to the state of Nebraska where on July 15th, 1886 he was united in marriage to Anna Dau, and in 1893 he came with his family to Idaho settling at Falk Store where he ran a stage from Falk to Payette and a few years later moved to Payette where he carried the mail for several years from Payette to New Plymouth before the railroad was built, which was the first mail route out of Payette. Mr. Carstens continued to live in Payette until the time of his death. Besides his wife, he is survived by five sons and three daughters, William N. Carstens of Boise, Herman of Eagle, Idaho, Mrs. Emma Ferber of Payette, Henry of Seattle, Mrs. John T. Hanigan, August D. and Edward of Payette and Mrs. Frank Browning of Gypsum of Colorado. The funeral will be from the Evangelical Church Friday at ten A. M. and will be conducted by the pastor Rev. Charles Hoffman.
