He was riding a mule in a team driven by Lloyd McClure. The boys were tailing some chains at which the mules took fright and tore away from Lloyd. The mule Richard rode, in some way became tangled in the chains and fell, throwing him under. He was carried unconscious to the house and Drs. Woodward called but nothing could be done as the base of the skull was fractured and his little life passed out about 10:30 o'clock. He was a 4th grade pupil and one of the brightest in his class. a number of his schoolmates and their teacher attended the funeral services held at the McKinney home Saturday afternoon by Rev. Clayton of the Baptist church of Payette, assisted by Rev. Burtch of Fruitland. Burial was made at Payette cemetery.
