Coates Services for Albert L. Coates, 93, Payette, a retired farmer, who died Saturday, Sept. 29, 1985, in an Ontario nursing home, were conducted today at the First United Methodist church, Payette. Lodge Rites by IOOF No. 22 were held at Riverside Cemetery, with interment following under the direction of Payette Chapel of the Roses. He was born Oct. 8, 1891, in the Washoe Area near Payette, the son of Daniel B. and Sarah Adeline Windle Coates. At the age of two years he moved with his family to a Little Willow ranch for 13 years when the Coates family moved back to Payette where he attended school. He married Hazel A. Fox on March 18, 1912 in Vale. They shared 72 and one-half years of happy married life on Little Willow before her death on Sept. 5, 1984. Mr. Coates homesteaded 160 acres of land in 1912 and has owned and operated his ranch on Little Willow for 67 years. He loved the land and his cattle and was a good farmer and stockman. He was a member and past member of the Orchard Avenue Grange No. 73; a member for 55 years and past noble grand of the IOOF Lodge No. 22, Payette; past president and active member of the Payette Senior Citizens; a school board member of District No. 4 for many years; and a board member of the Little Willow Irrigation District. He and his wife loved to dance and enjoyed square dancing most of their married lives. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed sharing his life with his friends. Survivors include, two sons, Ralph and Douglas both of Payette; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Izola) Coriell also of Payette; 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and three granddaughters, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, five brothers and three sisters. Memorials may be made to the Payette Senior Citizens in care of the Funeral Home.
