Coates, 82, Passes Away Last Thursday Morning Last Sunday residents of Payette county paid homage to the memory of another of her pioneers at the funeral of D. B. Coates, who passed away on Thursday of last week. Rev. E. R. Kaemmer had charge of the service and burial was made in Riverside cemetery under the direction of the Peterson-Foster funeral home. Six sons of the deceased, George, Albert, Early, Clarence, Howard and Lee Coates acted as pall bearers, and W. A. Crump, Chas. Bolton, Frank Supplee, Robert Thornton and Albert Hobbs, all old time friends of the deceased, were honorary pall bearers. David Bailey Coates was born Nov. 22, 1859 in Hillsdale county, Mich. He was married Sept. 17, 1882, to Sarah Adeline Windle in Boise, and they moved immediately to Payette to make their home. The couple celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary on Sept. 17, 1942. Mr. Coates, pioneer of this area, was a member of I. O. O. F. lodge No. 22 since 1890. His first work in the west was with a Union Pacific railroad construction crew, and he was one of the men who helped lay the tracks through Payette. Mr. Coates also was an active organizer of the Farmers Co-Operative Creamery, being a former president for 20 years. He also was associated during the years with the Rossi-Ridenbaugh Lumber company, the Payette Equity Exchange, the Federal Land bank and helped organize Riverside cemetery where he was buried Sunday. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Bertha M. Clark in Alberta, Canada; Mrs. Rosa Bell Davis, Vancouver, Wash., and Mrs. Lucy W. Davis, Fruitland; six sons, George, New Plymouth; Albert, Payette; Earl, Payette; Clarence, Payette; Howard, Vancouver, Wash.; Lee Roy, Newberg, Ore., and 27 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
