"Helen" Conner FRUITLAND -- Helena M. "Helen" Conner, 86, Fruitland, a homemaker, died Dec.14, 1987, in an Ontario Nursing home. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Free Methodist Church, Fruitland, Rev. Norman Slosted of the Free Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Parkview Cemetery, New Plymouth, under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Chapel, Fruitland. She was born Dec. 1, 1901, at Burwell, Neb., a daughter of Peter and Anna Mohr. She was raised and educated near Burwell where she lived on the family's farm. She married Stephen Jay Conner on March 24, 1920, at Burwell. They raised their family of nine children on a farm near there, and in 1944, she moved with her husband and one son to a homestead south of Fruitland. She helped them change an area of sage brush to a productive farm. She worked all her married life as a farm-wife and mother. She was a charter member of the Free Methodist Church in Fruitland. She enjoyed playing piano at church and at home; sewing, knitting, music, and was particularly fond of the time spent with her grandchildren. She was always proud of her husband and five sons serving in the military. Survivors include seven sons, Calvin E. Conner of Parma, Lavern M. Conner of Quincy, Wash., Joseph E. Conner of Toledo, O. Philip Conner of Eugene, Stephen Henry Conner, Clayton W. Conner and Stanley J. Conner all of Fruitland; two daughters, Anna Rickard of Portland and Alta Southwell of Lake Oswego; a brother, Arthur Mohr of Burwell; and two sisters, Anna Rowse and Rosa Meyer both of Burwell; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband died in August 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and a sister.
