Field had been ill for several days at a sheep camp where he was working and was brought to Weiser for treatment. Field was tried in Canyon county for the killing of Edward Ward, change of venue from Boise county having been obtained. After a long and bitterly contested trial the jury found him not guilty. Later the complaint against him for the shooting of Wayman Ward was dismissed, the evidence in both cases being practically identical.
