J. B. GORTON DIES AT GRANTS PASS, ORE. Word has been received here announcing the death of Mrs. J. B. Gorton, which occurred at the home of her son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Pat Short at Grants Pass, Ore., early Wednesday morning. Paralysis and heart trouble was the cause. Her body is leaving Grants Pass today for Payette for burial. (Payette Enterprise, Thursday August 29, 1929) MRS. J. B. GORTON The funeral of Mrs. J. B. Gorton was held at the Methodist church last Sunday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. Parrett, pastor. The attendance was large and many beautiful floral offerings gave tribute to the high esteem in which the deceased was held in this community, where she has lived for many years. As announced in last weeks issue of the Enterprise, Mrs. Gorton died very suddenly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Pat Short, at Grants Pass, Ore., her body being sent here for burial beside a son, who died in 1918. The deceased was born in the state of Pennsylvania, March 8th, 1870 and at the age of ten years moved with her parents to Keyapsaher county, Neb. She was married to J. B. Gorton at Crawford, Neb., May 20, 1891, where they continued to live until 1899, when they crossed the plains to Sumpter, Ore., by team and wagon, and in 1901, they came to Payette, where she continued to live until less than a year ago when she went to Grants pass to live with her daughter. Besides her husband, J. B. Gorton, she is survived by one son and three daughters, Arner Gorton of Riderwood, Wash.; Mrs. Homer Fletcher of Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Pat Short of Grants Pass, Ore., and La Rue Gorton of Payette, all of who were here to attend the funeral. She is also survived by two grandchildren and three brothers. Mrs. Gorton was an exceptionally good woman, and during her long years in Payette made many friends whose hearts were greatly saddened at the news of her death.
