Griffin Wynema Christian Griffin, 90, Ontario, passed away May 29, 2000 at an Ontario assisted living home. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette, with Pastor Bill Slabaugh of the Payette First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Rosedale Memorial Gardens, Payette. Wynema was born Aug. 11, 1909 at Rexford, Kan., a daughter of Earl and Anna Christian. The family moved to Payette in 1914, and she graduated from Payette High School in 1928. She was a bookkeeper for Stanton Transfer and Storage for 16 years, and on Sept. 29, 1934, she married Lyle Griffin. They moved to a small farm south of Payette and later to Crescent City, Calif., where Lyle was Fire Department Chief and Wynema was the radio dispatcher and a member of the Women's Firemen's Auxiliary. She enjoyed the ocean, walking along beaches, going to the wharf, watching the fishing boats come in to unload, and loved working in her large beautiful rose garden. She made a lot of friends in Crescent City and missed all of them after leaving there. Survivors include a sister, Murial Spears of Ontario; a brother and sister-in- law, Jim and Lila Rae Christian of Payette; a nephew, Jim, and his children, Andy, Matt, and Nathan; a nephew, Lon, and his child, Dan; a nephew, Del, and his child, Ashlie; one niece, Ann and her child, Mac; and three additional nephews, Robert, David, and Michael Christian. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle E. Griffin; one sister, Eileen Schwass, and two brothers, Milton and Eugene Christian. Memorials may be made to the Payette First Baptist Church or a charity of your choice, in care of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette, ID 83661.
