Harper, Pioneer Resident, Succumbs Saturday Pioneer resident, Edward Franklin Harper, succumbed Saturday in a local hospital. Mr. Harper suffered a stroke of paralysis while attending a meeting of the Rod and Gun club Thursday night and never fully regained consciousness before death came. He was born Aug. 20, 1876 in Beaver, Utah and moved with his family to Weiser in 1880. He came to Payette in 1915 where he has made his home continuously since that time. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American war and a sports enthusiast. During the war with Spain he served in the Philippines as a lieutenant. He also was a member of the Idaho State Militia before and after the conflict. Following the war he took an active part in the Spanish war veterans organization and served a term as commander of the local unit. He also took a keen interest in the local rod and gun club and was in the midst of a talk to Boy Scouts in attendance at a meeting of that organization giving them some good advice on conservation of wildlife when he was stricken with his last illness. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lulu Harper; one daughter, Mrs. Claude Solterbeck, and one son, Glen Harper, all of Payette; one sister, Mrs. Emma Equals, Boise; a brother, Henry, Tacoma, Wash.; a half-brother, Roy, Salt Lake City, and four grandchildren. Services were conducted at the Methodist church Tuesday with the Rev. Stanley Andrews officiating. Interment was at the Riverside cemetery under the direction of Shaffer chapel.
