Hawley, former governor and pioneer lawyer of Idaho, the people of this state have lost one of their valuable and most admired citizens. His life in Idaho has covered a period of more than 67 years and perhaps no man has been identified in as many important events of the state as did Governor Hawley. He was an important figure in the early day when good, dependable legal advice was of a premium, and equally as important in later years. During his administration as governor he gave the state a sound and constructive administration. The people of Idaho are going to miss this grand man, one of the pioneer builders of Idaho, but perhaps none of Idaho's citizens outside of his immediate family will feel the loss more keenly than one of Payette's pioneer citizens, W. A. Coughanour, who has been a close and almost a life time associate, their early acquaintance and close friendship dating back to the gold rush in the Boise Basin in the early sixties. Mr. Coughanour received the sad news immediately following his death and left at once for Boise.
