For the past four years he had been in poor health and three weeks ago he became seriously ill and all members of his family were notified. All eight children came to be with him. One son, Captain Wm. Holt of the USMC stationed in China flew 9000 miles to be with his father to the last. Mrs. Emily Chandler and Donald Holt of Los Angeles stayed a week. This was the first time in eight years the entire family had been together. E. B. Holt was born May 16, 1864 at Hampton, Conn., where he received his education and grew to manhood. Later he moved to Hastings, Nebr. There in 1905 he was married to Lillian Schellak. In 1910 he with his family moved to Fruitland and purchased the ranch where he resided until the time of his death. For years he was president of the Fruitland Fruit Association board of directors and was prominent in all civic affairs of the community. Survivors include his wife, Lillian of Fruitland, four sons, Edwin of Fruitland, Donald of Also Angeles, Captain Wm. Holt of the USMC and James Holt of Fruitland; four daughters, Mrs. Josephine Osborne of Ontario, Mrs. Eva Strawn of Fruitland, Mrs. Gertrude Clark of Portland, Mrs. Emily Chandler of Los Angeles; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Emily Congdon, of Hartford, Conn. and Mrs. James Stitt of Norfolk, Nebr. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock in the Church of the Brethren at Fruitland Monday with the Rev. Honeyford of the Baptist church of Ontario officiating. Burial was at Riverside, Payette.
