AXEL JOHNSON Mrs. Axel Johnson passed away at four o'clock Monday morning, January 1 and funeral services were held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. E. R. Kaemmer, pastor of the Methodist church officiating and the Landon Funeral home directing arrangements. Mrs. Johnson, nee Mary A. Bjorkman was born at Lund, Sweden, September 25, 1865 and was married to Axel Johnson on February 10, 1891. Immediately after their marriage the couple migrated to America, arriving in Payette in June of the same year and this has been their home since that date. Mrs. Johnson was the mother of seven children, one of whom, Oscar, died at the age of 19 years. Besides her husband, deceased is survived by the following children: Viola Ahlstrand, of Fruitland; Olga and Emma Johnson, of Payette; Victor and August Johnson of Weiser and Berniece Benoy, of Vale, Oregon. In addition there are nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mrs. Johnson united with the Lutheran church in her childhood and continued a member of that organization until the church closed in Payette. She then transferred her membership to the Methodist church, of which she has been a faithful and honored member up until the time of her death.
