Keene Graveside services for Wendell O. Keene, 64, Payette, who died Monday, July 30, 1984, in a Payette nursing home, will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Payette, with Rev. Robert Hefty of the First United Methodist Church in Payette officiating, under direction of Shaffer-Jensen Chapel, Payette. He was born Sept. 14, 1919, in Chariton, Iowa, son of Homer and Lea Keene. He was raised and educated in Iowa. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the South Pacific and received three Bronze stars. He was stationed in England while serving in the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Eastern Washington State College at Cheney, Wash., then taught school in Lewiston, Idaho and Deer Park, Wash. He was a newspaper reporter in Aberdeen, Wash.; Pittsburgh, Calif. and Klamath Falls, Ore. He also served as deputy sheriff part of the time while at Klamath Falls. He later moved to Payette. Survivors include his brother, James Keene of Xenia, Ohio; a sister, Mary Lou Cronen of Rancho Cordova, Calif. and 13 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and his parents. Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m. at Shaffer Jensen Chapel in Payette.
