All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/id/idfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Cheryl Hanson ihansonb@fmtc.com December 19, 2005, 9:56 pm Idaho Daily Statesman 11-18-1899 Idaho Daily Statesman Boise, Idaho Saturday, November 18, 1899 CHAPTER OF ACCIDENTS IN THE VICINITY OF PAYETTE Payette Independent - Walter King, aged about 32 years, who was well known and respected by nearly all citizens of Payette, lost his life by drowning while crossing a treacherous ford on the Payette river Wednesday afternoon about 1:30 o'clock. Mr. W. E. Banks of Centerville, Iowa, who represents the Spaulding Manufacturing company, as a traveling salesman, was with Mr. King at the time of the accident and barely escaped the fate of his companion. Upon reaching the shore, Banks went to Mr. Linder's house on the W. A. Coughanour ranch where he gave the alarm and a number of farmers were soon at the river where they managed to save one of the horses some distance below the ford. King's body has not been recovered.
