Chas. McCrea Dies After Short Illness

Charles O. McCrea, 63, well known local business man died at an Ontario 
hospital Monday following only a short illness.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 o'clock at the Shaffer 
Memory chapel with the Rev. Earl Saladin of the Christian church officiating. 
Interment will be in Riverside cemetery.
Charles Oliver McCrea was born at Midvale, Dec. 21, 1887. He received his 
education at Weiser and later training as a sheet metal worker at Reno, Nev.
He operated a sheet metal shop at Vale, Ore., and also for the Vale Mercantile 
at Vale and Wulff Hardware at Weiser for a number of years. He also spent 
several years as a wholesale salesman for the Wulff Hardware.
He had lived in and near Payette since 1925 and started the business, the 
McCrea Sheet Metal & Plumbing Co., with which he was associated at the time of 
death, in 1943. 
He was married to Mary Margie Stark at Vale on Aug. 7, 1912. Besides his wife 
he is survived by a son Charles Hartsel McCrea, Payette; and a daughter, Mrs. 
Mary Darlene Hawks of Hagerman; and seven grandchildren.
Survivors also include his mother, Mrs. Malinda Hopper of Weiser; a twin 
sister, Mrs. Cora Flynn of Weiser; three other sisters, Mrs. Rachel McKeel and 
Mrs. Ruth Googins of Los Angeles, Calif.; and Mrs. Florence Ericksen of 
Riverside, Calif.; and two brothers, C. C. McCrea of Portland, Ore., and Lloyd 
Hopper of Los Angeles, Cal. 
His brother, John J. McCrea of Weiser died on Feb. 11, 1951 and his step-
father, Ira Hopper died about a year ago.
Mr. McCrea was particularly well known among sportsmen of the area as his 
hobbies were fishing and hunting. In his early years he was rated among the top 
shotgun shooters of the area.
