R. McKinney Dies In Boise Long Public Career Ends For Man Who Served As Leader Death ended a distinguished and colorful career yesterday for John Robert McKinney, 78, a resident of Payette county for the past 47 years and a former city, county and state official. He died in a Boise hospital. Mr. McKinney was elected a county commissioner in 1940. In 1941 he was chosen to serve as chairman of the county board after the death of C. P. Rhodes. He continued as chairman of the commissioners until he resigned in May of 1949 to accept a state position. In 1949 and 1950 he was commissioner of public works in Idaho and he served in 1951 and 1952 as state commissioner of highways. His long public career also included terms as representative to the state legislature and as a member of the Payette city council and the school board. It was largely due to the efforts of Mr. McKinney that new bridges were built recently at Payette and Weiser spanning the Snake river. In observance of his passing all Payette county offices will be closed Saturday morning during funeral services. The rites begin at 10 a.m. at the St. James Episcopal church with interment following in Riverside cemetery in Payette under the direction of the Shaffer Memory chapel. In addition to his many official duties, Mr. McKinney had been a successful farmer and businessman in the Payette area. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and Washoe Lodge No. 28 AF & AM. He was born Jan. 14, 1875 at Blue Mound, Ill., and moved to this district in 1906 from Wyoming. His survivors include one son, Robert McKinney of Payette, two grandchildren, Kathleen and John Robert McKinney III, both of Payette, and a sister, Mrs. A. N. Corrington of Normal, Ill.
