VALENTINE MERCER

Mr. Valentine Mercer, well known resident of Payette died at his home on First 
avenue south, last Sunday evening after a brief illness of but two days.  Mr. 
Mercer had not been in good health for some time, but his sudden death was a 
shock to the people of this community.

He was born at Adel, Iowa, April 22, 1861 and died at Payette, Idaho, May 13th, 
1923, therefore being just a little past 62 years of age at the time of his 
death.  He was married to Miss Anna Johnson, January 2nd, 1891.  10 children 
were born to bless their home, seven of whom survive.  Besides his wife, the 
seven children who are left to mourn his death are:  Mrs. F. L. Tobey of Cour 
D’Alene, Idaho, Mable, Clinton, Francis, Sadie, Glenn and Kenneth, all of 
Payette.  He also leaves two brothers and four sisters:  Clinton Mercer, of 
California, Rev. Wm. Mercer of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Nancy Frances and Mrs. J. 
M. Turner, of Payette; Mrs. Eliza College of Adel, Iowa, and Mrs. Sarah 
Alexander, of Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Methodist church at 2 
o’clock, conducted by Rev. Hall.  Interment was made at Riverside cemetery.

We desire to express our sincere thanks to the many friends who so willingly 
assisted and expressed their heartfelt sympathy at a time when it was so much 
needed, during the sickness and death of our dear husband and father.
