NEGRO SECTION WORKER DROWNS

Was Found Dead Near Payette River Bridge Sunday

Harry Lee Mitchell, 29, negro section worker was drowned in approximately three 
inches of water near the Payette River railroad bridge here Sunday afternoon.

Dr. J. C. Woodward, who examined the body said it was his theory that the “man 
had an epileptic attack; fell into the water while fishing; was unable to 
withdraw himself and therefore drowned.”

A member of a passing train crew saw the body near the river’s edge and 
reported it at the depot.  An official there called Chief of Police Rose, who 
went to the scene and found the negro dead, with his head in about three inches 
of water and the rest of the body on the rather steep bank.

The remains were later taken in charge by Edith Landon, county coroner, and 
interment was made at evening graveside services Rev. Paul Felthouse of the 
Baptist church officiated.

Information received by the Coroner was to the effect that Mitchell was born at 
Eeman, Vo., Oct. 12, 1915.  A sister, Mrs. Sara M. Gill lives at Martinsville, 
Va.
