E. Ovens, Manager of Canning Company, Dies E. E. Ovens, for a number of years manager of the Seven Devils canning company, died Saturday morning in his room at the office of the company. Mr. Ovens was born in New Jersey about 65 years ago -- the exact date is not known, as he had no relatives in this city. He came to Payette eight years ago. He was an active member of the Commercial club until his health failed him and was always one of the substantial workers and boosters for the valley. His health incapacitated him for active labor, yet he had a keen mind and was optimistic till the last. A few days before he died, the reporter of the Independent called on him at his apartments and found him reclining comfortably in an easy chair. He spoke enthusiastically of the valley, the outlook for a heavy crop and of his plans for taking care of it. He remained steadfast to the last and died like a man. Short Masonic services were held at the hall Sunday afternoon, and the body was started on its long journey to Albany, New York where his relatives requested it sent for burial.
