Pence Dies in Payette PAYETTE -- Albert Loyd Pence, 77, a lifetime resident of Payette and father-in- law of U.S. Sen. Herman Welker, died Saturday night in a Payette hospital after a lingering illness. Mr. Pence was born Sept. 11, 1877, in Payette and was married to Carrie E. Taylor in Weiser, Oct. 23, 1902. Mrs. Pence died in 1951. He had been engaged in several business enterprises, including farming, banking, fruit growing and food processing. He was a member of Washoe lodge No. 28, A.F.&A.M., of Payette for more than 50 years. Surviving are three sons, Peter Pence of San Lorenzo, Calif., Albert L. Pence, Jr., of St. Louis, Mo., and Jack Pence of Payette; four daughters, Mrs. Pauline Romig of Eugene, Mrs. Katherine Nelson of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Gladys Welker of Payette and Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Margaret Hathaway of Grants Pass; a brother Edward C. Pence of Boise; a sister, Mrs. Grace Bradshaw of Wendell and 15 grandchildren. Services will be conducted at Shaffer chapel Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Charles Easly will officiate and the Payette Masonic lodge will conduct services at Riverside.
