Pence, member of a pioneer Payette county family and a citizen who has contributed much toward the development of the community, passed away at his home on Center avenue last Tuesday morning following an illness of short duration. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 3:30 p. m. at the local Episcopal church with Frank A. Rhea, Bishop of Idaho officiating. Friends of the deceased may call at the Landon Funeral home between the hours of 10 a. m. and 3 p. m. on Friday. "Walt" Pence, as he was more familiarly known by a host of friends throughout this section of Idaho, was born July 5, 1882 at Boise, Idaho. He has been a resident of this county throughout his lifetime. In 1905 Mr. Pence took over the operation of the ranch, which had been under the ownership of his father, the late Peter Pence, since 1862. He attended the local schools and on January 6, 1908 was married to Miss Adda Cram at Caldwell. Deceased is survived by his widow, two children, Mrs. Robert Thurston, of Seattle, Wash., and Tom Pence, of Payette and two grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd Pence, of Payette and Ed Pence of Santa Barbara, California and two sisters, Mrs. Rex Bradshaw, of Wendell, Idaho and Mrs. Frank Satoris of Seattle. A brother, Harry Pence, died in 1940. Mr. Pence was always interested in civic and fraternal affairs and in addition to other interests he was president of the Payette State Bank from June, 1925 to April, 1930 and a director of the First Security Bank of Payette from April, 1930 to October, 1932. He represented the second ward on the Payette city council from 1926 to 1935. He was a member of the Board of trustees of Washoe Lodge No. 28, A.F. & A. M. and was president of the board when the bonds were issued for the building of the local Masonic hall. Also was a member of (several lines unreadable) Knights Templar, El Korah Temple (unreadable), the Mystic Shrine and a member of the York Rite bodies. He affiliated with Washoe Lodge On March 2, 1921. Washoe Lodge, A. F. & A. M. will have charge of the services at the graveside. Pallbearers are E. H. Murphy, F. M. Moss, Col. W. H. Moss, Clyde Thurston, Bryan West and J. R. McKinney; honorary pallbearers, Jack Whalen, Dr. Catron, Sam Applegate, John Applegate, Marion Moore of Ellensburg, Washington and E. A. Cruzen of Boise.
