According to investigators, Peterson died after the car driven by Gayland Peterson smashed into a Payette river bridge three miles north of Horseshoe Bend. Gayland is recovering from injuries suffered in the wreck. Born At New Plymouth The victim was born at New Plymouth January 7, 1925 and had been a lifetime resident of the community. He was a member of the Baptist church and a veteran of World War 2. He was married to Bernice Burnap in 1947. She survives, as do two daughters, Linda Louise and Lilly Ann; one son, Richard Eugene; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Peterson, Sr., all of New Plymouth, and three sisters, Mrs. Cecil Fowler of Payette, Mrs. Kenneth Beutler and Margie Peterson of New Plymouth. Also surviving are two brothers, Ralph of New Plymouth and William, serving in the Air Force, and his grandmother, Mrs. Emma Stuve of Emmett. Services were Monday at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Ford Burtch officiating. Interment was at Parkview cemetery under the direction of the Shaffer Memory chapel of Payette. Members of the VFW and the American Legion performed graveside services.
