William "Sam" Rice
 
Graveside services for William "Sam" Rice, 78, Fruitland, who died Tuesday, 
Aug. 14, 1984, in a Payette nursing home, were conducted Aug. 17, at he 
Parkview Cemetery, New Plymouth, with Rev. Earl Traugher of the Church of the 
Brethren, Fruitland officiating, under the direction of the Shaffer-Jensen 
Chapel, Payette.
 
Mr. Rice was born Aug. 3, 1906, at Stroud, Okla., the son of Charles and Josie 
Rice.  He was reared and educated in Sidney, Neb., and later moved in Salisaw, 
Okla.  He married Elizabeth Treadwell in 1926 at Gore, Okla.  She died in 
1929.  He worked in the oil fields in Oklahoma before moving to Fruitland in 
1932.  He married Wynona Lynn on March 27, 1933, at Mountain Home.  He worked 
as a civilian employee for the U. S. Ordinance at Ordinance, Ore., then moved 
back to Fruitland in 1943, where he worked at the Payette Creamery for 27 
years, and retired in 1970.  He was a member of the National 10-20 CB Club and 
a member of the Hells Canyon CB Club.
 
Survivors include a wife, Wynona of Fruitland; two sons, Bill Rice of 
Fruitland and Melvyn Lynn of Boise; two daughters, Linda Alexander of Ontario, 
and Carol Jones of Eagle River, Alaska; three sisters, Lela Hearn of Gore, 
Okla., and Mary Miller and Myrtle Stephenson, both of Bakersfield, Calif.; a 
brother, Dexter Rice of Boise; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.  
He was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, a brother and a sister.
