Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Pastor Bill Slabaugh of the First Baptist Church of Ontario will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Payette. Esther was born April 2, 1896, to Benjamin and Alberta Purcell on a ranch north of Payette. The family moved to Payette when Esther was a small child, where she was educated in the Payette and Weiser Schools. Esther met her future husband, Ray Shurtleff, in Payette. They were married Oct. 2, 1912. Together they bought a fruit farm north of Payette and celebrated 61 years of marriage. Esther and Ray owned a fruit packing an storage at Woodspur, north of Payette. Ray passed away Dec. 30, 1973. She was a former member of the Elks Lodge Emblem Club, former member of the Orchard Avenue Grange, a member of the Beakon Club and a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church. Esther is survived by a son, Cecil Shurtleff of Payette; twin daughters, Betty M. Webb of Boise and Peggy A. Coates of Phoenix, Ariz.; a niece, Ferne Short of Weiser; a brother-in-law, Lionel Shurtleff of Haines, Ore.; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Coe of Sparks, Nev.; her parents, six sisters and three brothers. Memorials may be made to the Payette First Baptist Church or to Pathway Hospice Memorial Fund, in care of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette.
