Smock, Emmett, Dies Also Was Minister, Member of Ford Peace Expedition EMMETT-P. Monroe Smock, 72, Payette county's first prosecuting attorney and a member of the ill-fated Henry Ford peace mission to Europe during the first World war, died Saturday at his Emmett home, 626 East Second street. He was a Baptist minister and had served churches in Iowa, Hot Springs, S. D.; Boise, and in Florida. He organized the Baptist church at New Plymouth and dedicated it on June 20, 1909. Services will be held Monday at 2:30 at the Bucknum chapel here, with the Rev. John Daley, pastor of the Emmett Baptist church, in charge. Interment will be at Parkview in New Plymouth, with the Masonic lodge in charge of graveside services. Mr. Smock was born Feb. 27, 1874 in Geneva, Pa., and was married in 1896 to Anna M. Hamilton, who preceded him in death. He later married Lena McDonald who survives him. He was admitted to the Idaho bar in 1910 and became Payette county's first prosecutor. He was the only delegate from Idaho on the Ford peace ship which went to Europe in the effort to bring an end to the war. He gave many addresses on the mission, after returning to Idaho. Other positions held by Mr. Smock included that of commissioner of public welfare for King county, Seattle; and inspector for the department of horticulture for Washington. He lived in Florida for 10 years, where he was pastor of the College Park Baptist church in Orlando. Survivors, besides his wife, are two children by his first marriage, Carlyle H., of Portland, and Mrs. Oscar Olsen, New Plymouth; three children by his second marriage, Mrs. William Sudduth, and Robert B. and William W., in the armed service; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a niece, all living in or near the Payette valley. Mr. Smock had been in ill health about six years. He returned to Emmett about a year ago from Florida.
