All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/id/idfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Cheryl Hanson ihansonb@fmtc.com August 24, 2006, 6:31 pm Independent Enterprise 8-8-1984 Independent Enterprise Payette, Idaho Wednesday, August 8, 1984 Ellis Alfred Stokes Services for Ellis Alfred Stokes, 78, of New Plymouth, who died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 1984, at an Ontario hospital, were conducted Saturday, at 11 a.m. at the New Plymouth Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with Bishop Dale Myers officiating. Interment followed at Rosedale Memorial Gardens under direction of Ontario Chapel of the Roses. He was born Aug. 21, 1905, at Ogden, Utah, the son of Elias and Flora Wheeler Stokes. He was raised and educated at Slaterville, Utah. He married Lottie Barrett on Dec. 1, 1926 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They have lived in this community for 33 years where he was a dairy farmer. He was a member of the New Plymouth Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints church and was president of the High Priest Quorum at the time of his death. He had served as finance clerk for many years, as a Sunday School chorister, and had worked in scouting for 50 years. He was active in the Payette County Senior citizens serving as president in both Payette and New Plymouth. Mr. Stokes had sang for many years in the Treasure Valley Community choir. He owned and operated a registered Jersey dairy farm at Nu Acres before he retired in 1971 and moved to New Plymouth. Survivors include his wife, Lottie, of New Plymouth; five sons, Gordon of Provo, Utah; Ned of Homedale, Idaho; Paul of New Plains, Ore., Dan of Fruitland and David of West Valley, Utah; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Julia) Gurney of Ontario; Mrs. Van (Marilyn) McDonald of El Paso, Texas; five brothers, Victor Stokes of Las Vegas, Nev.; Otto Stokes of San Bernardino, Calif.; John (Jack) Darrell and Lowell Stokes all of Ogden, Utah; one sister, Mrs. Edward (Armeda) Carlson of Reno, Nev.; 46 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
