Until the past few years, Mr. Tharp had been engaged in farming near Payette, but due to ill health he had lived at his home on North Seventh street and spent much time growing flowers that were known for their unusual beauty throughout this section. Mr. and Mrs. Tharp had one of the outstanding iris gardens in Payette, many of the flowers had been created by the Tharps through careful breeding and care. Mr. Tharp was born in Blair, Nebraska, March 10, 1870, and came to Payette in 1886. He was married at Vale, Oregon, October 4, 1905 to Miss Mary D. Frakes of Payette. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ida M. Daniel of Kellogg and one son, James W. Tharp, of Payette. A son and daughter preceded him in death. Other survivors are three grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Mina Miner of The Pass, Canada; Mrs. Eva Polley, Naponee, Nebraska; Mrs. Lora Croley, Grand Junction, Colorado; Miss Elma R. Tharp, Tokyo, Japan, and three brothers, Oscar H. Tharp, Kansas City, Missouri; Wallace H. Tharp, Boise and Ralph E. Tharp, Ellensburg, Washington. Funeral services were held last Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church with the Peterson-Foster funeral home having charge. Rev. S. Dallas McNeil preached the sermon. Interment was in the Riverside cemetery.
