The accident occurred near his home just south of this city. He had been underneath his automobile which had been placed upon blocks, and apparently, some of the supports had slipped, Coroner Gifford Shaffer said yesterday. Sheriff Stephens stopped at Tone's home Wednesday afternoon to see him, and found him under the automobile. It is not known just how long he had been there before being discovered. Two of Tone's small daughters were in the house when the accident was discovered. They were Susie, 1, and Joanne, 3 years old. A wrecker was immediately summoned to haul the automobile off of the body, the sheriff said. Tone was born on April 7, 1923 in Toas, Mo., and came to Payette last year. He had been working at the vinegar factory until recently. He was married in June of 1945 to the former Betty Harris in Price, Utah. Surviving are his wife, who was in San Francisco at the time of his death; three daughters, Joanne, 3, Judy, 2, and Susie, 1; and his mother, Antonette Tone of Jefferson City, Mo. Funeral services are pending at the Shaffer Memory Chapel. (Joseph L. Tone is buried at the Riverside cemetery in Payette.)
