Friday evening of last week some small boys swimming in the Payette river near the small island just below the Oregon Short Line Railroad bridge discovered the body of a child which had been cast upon the island. The news was brought to town by one of the lads and investigation disclosed the fact that the body was that of a four or five months old baby girl. It was in a bad state of decomposition indicating that it had been exposed to the elements for some time. The body was fully dressed, little woolen undershirt stockings what had evidently been a white dress and a coat having a cape which looked as though it might have been blue in color. Coroner Fred K. Robinson made an investigation of the case Saturday but could find no clues as to the identity of the child. It is thought by some that the child might have been drowned far up the Payette river during the early spring and was brought down on the high waters. The body was interred in the cemetery here (Riverside) and effort will be made to find out the identity of the little one.
