They opened the E. A. Stegner store in 1906. It was said that if Stegner didn't have what you wanted, you wouldn't find it anywhere. The store closed in 1929. E. A. Stegner was also the first postmaster in Fruitland, appointed in 1911. Eugene Stegner died in 1953, and Jean Stegner died in 1956. Both are buried in Riverside cemetery in Payette.
