M. C. A. land and structure. In 1907 the building was constructed on the corner of 9th and Center in Payette. "Everybody Gives" was the slogan adopted by the committee which was raising money for the effort. Amont the list of founders were R. E. Haynes, E. C. S. Brainard, C. E. Brainard, Charlie Lattig, Mrs. E. W. Blakesly and most of the church organizations of Payette. The first fire in the building was about 1913. With insurance money and another subscription drive the interior and roof were repaired and operation continued until 1922. However, the project proved to big for the size of the community and a yearly drive was necessary to finance it's operation. Some old- timers said the end was hastened after the boys returned from World War 1 and there was a generally unfavorable attitude towards the Y. M. C. A. The county took over the property for taxes in 1922, later selling it to the I. O. O. F. lodge. The property then went to E. E. Coplin. In 1941, the second fire occured causing the complete distruction of the building. One owner estimated that there were 175,000 bricks in the building.
