Mr. Ward formerly resided in the Canada settlement east of Stanwood, MI and left 8 years ago for Idaho, where at the time of his death he was part owner of the Altona gold mines & was making arrangements to return to Michigan. Ward & another miner by the name of Johnson were in a cabin when the shooting occured, the shot being fired by the cook, Jack Forest. Ward died instantly. Ford had been out of work for 17 days & wanted pay during the time he was idle. The largest owner of hte mine resides in Grand Rapids, MI.,& the money for the men was sent from that city to Ward, he on this occasion not receiving enough to pay for the time Forest was idle. Forest is under arrest & the trail will be held later. The interment was at Wallace, Idaho. Mr. Ward leaves three sisters, Mrs. Frank Moore & Mrs. George Austin, of this city, & Mrs. Eugene Compton of Byers, also three brothers Louis Ward of Cadillac, T.S. Ward of Rodney & H.C. Ward of Santa Crus, Califonia.
