Gerald Stanley Storey was the second son of Helen Marjorie McIntosh and Herbert Stanley Storey. Gerald or as everyone calls him Jerry was raised in Richfield, Idaho spending his school years in Richfield, Shoshone and on the prairie later graduating from Camas County High School at Fairfield. With two brothers J.T. (John Thomas) and Carl Storey he was a typical country boy hunting and fishing. Throughout his life, you can see many pictures of his hunting trophies with his father, brothers and sons. He grew up working as a ranch hand and driving a cattle truck. Although his parents and employer signed a document stating that he was needed on the ranch, Jerry enlisted in the US Army draft office in Gooding, Idaho in June 1968, training at Fort Lewis in Washington. He actively served as an infantryman and earned a National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze service stars, a Vietnam Campaign medal with 60 devices, a Bronze Star as well as a Purple Heart when he was wounded in Vietnam. His active duty lasted two year and he was honorably discharged from the reserves in June of 1974. Jerry was married to Vickie Thacker from 1971 until 1980. Jerry and Vickie had three children Jamie, Jennifer and Gerald. He later married Christine Mercer Gortcinsky Wilde in October 1981. He then became a dad to Christine’s four children Jonnie, Andy, Rory and Jessica who he treated as his own. Jerry worked as a truck driver for Ida-Cal and Motor West. He later started working as a mechanic and truck driver for Century Equipment in Boise. He then transferred to Burk’s Tractor in Twin Falls where he partially retired in 2009, fully retiring in 2011. If you ask his children to describe him they would tell you he was the most non-judgmental, understanding and laid back man there could be. He would tell stories of him and his family going back to Missouri to visit his grandparents, so his grandparents could show Jerry’s father where the money was buried on the farm. He would tell you about the adventures of coon, squirrel and bullfrog hunting with his cousins. In the Burk’s employee parking lot you would find my dad’s truck, tucked into the visor was always a 20- dollar bill, “just in case” one of his kids needed some money. On the weekends, he would make his rounds to the families living around Twin Falls to share a cup or two of coffee, maybe a powdered donut, checking in with everyone. At Christmas time, you would find him delivering poinsettias to the females of the family. He spent his final years walking and spoiling his faithful companions Milo, Otis and Wednesday, being surrounded by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and assisting his wife in her obsession of genealogy and transcribing headstones in local cemeteries. Family, friends and acquaintances will miss him and will always remember his famous words “its peachy” and “all is just ducky”.
