Victim of Drowning Accident Cruelly Battered by Rocks-Inquest Deemed Unnecessary- Remains Interred In Twin Falls Cemetery on Thursday Morning. The body of C. F. Branning, the wood worker who lost his life by drowning at Shoshone Falls on Sunday, September 17, was found floating in the water a short distance below the power house of the Shoshone Falls Power company on Tuesday evening. The remains were anchored for the night and carried out of the canyon through the power company's tunnel on Wednesday, Coroner Patterson decided that no inquest was necessary and the body was buried in Twin Falls on Thursday morning. This was the first instance in which the body of a person drowned at Shoshone Falls came to the surface in less than three weeks. The early discovery of Branning's remains is attributed to the low water which reduced the circulation below the falls and permitted objects to float down stream. Branning's body was mutilated by contact with the rocks. It was brought to the parlors of Undertaker Havlicek. The widow and brother of the deceased were notified that the body had been recovered and they quickly came here from Salt Lake City. It was decided to inter the remains in the Twin Falls cemetery and this was done on Thursday morning with simple ceremony. Additional Comments: Buried at the old Twin Falls Cemetery, not known if his body was reburied later in the new Twin Falls cemetery.
