William E. Coonts was in the Twin Falls County jail Wednesday night after his 
arrest on charges of kidnapping filed against him by his wife, Joyce M. Coonts. 
Coonts, 33-year-old operator of the Smoker, 201 Shoshone Street So. Requested a 
preliminary hearing on the charges when arraigned before probate Judge S.T. 
Hamilton after his arrest by city police.
Bond was set at 3500 by Judge Hamilton who scheduled a hearing for Jan 7.
A divorce action filed earlier by Mrs. Coonts is now pending in District Court. 
She charged her husband with extreme cruelty in the divorce complaint.
Mrs. Ccoonts charged in the kidnapping complaint that she had been taken from 
149 Madison Street Friday night while unconscious from blows about the head 
allegedly struck by Coonts. When she recovered consciousness, she was in a car 
with her husband on a side road in Shoshone, she asserted.
The alledged blows were said by Mrs. Coonts to have caused a “slight brain 
concussion”. She was under a doctor’s care for several days before filling the 
charges against Coonts.
