Koch, 59, route 1, Kimberly, died of a self inflicted gunshot wound after he had shot his wife in the right arm with a 32- caliber automatic pistol Friday morning at the Alberta Simonds farm two miles west and a quarter mile south of Kimberly. Sheriff Jesse Carlton said Mrs. Koch evidently was lying on the bed when her husband shot her. Mrs. Koch ran to the home of Miss Simonds who took Mrs. Koch to a Kimberly doctor. She was later transferred to Magic Valley Memorial hospital. Her condition was reported as good. Deputy Sheriff Paul Ross said Mr. Koch was sitting on the lawn in front of his house as he drove up. He said Mr. Koch fired one shot through his head, the bullet coming out above his right ear. Deputy Sheriff Paul Ross and Deputy Sheriff Gene Kauffman heard Koch fire the fatal shot as they drove towards the house after being notified of the injury to Mrs. Koch. Koch sitting on the lawn in front of the house, put the pistol in his mouth and fired a bullet which emerged above the right ear, Ross said. Sheriff Carlton said Koch apparently had bought the second hand gun earlier Friday morning. A box of shells for the weapon was found in his car parked outside of the home. An empty shell was found in the car and three shells in the couple's bedroom. Carlson said Koch apparently shot at himself and missed before going outside the house. His hat was found in the living room with a bullet hole in the brim. Miss Simonds said the Kochs had been farming for her since 1945. She said Koch was a capable farmer and she "never had any reason to believe that difficulties existed between the husband and wife." Funeral services are pending at White mortuary. Survivors, in addition to the widow, include a son, Harold Koch, Berger, and a daughter, Mrs. Frank Spencer, Twin Falls.
