Blackwell, Sr. "Ontario, Ore. - George W. Blackwell, Sr., 97, of Ontario, and formerly of Vale, Ore., died Sunday, Jan 29, 1989, at Meadowbrook Retirement Center, Ontario. "Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Vale's Lienkemper Chapel. Ray Winters will officiate. Burial will follow in Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa. "Mr. Blackwell was born Dec. 10, 1891, at Long Creek, Ore., a son of Clement S. and Anna Leonore Francis Shields Blackwell. He lived in Old Meadows, Idaho from 1902 until 1904. He was a pioneer in the McCall area, where he lived from 1905 until 1946. His occupations included cowboy, teamster and stagecoach driver. He raised cattle and sheep, and was a dairyman. In 1946, he moved to Vale where he worked for Standard Oil as a wholesale gas distributor and also drove school bus. He moved to Ontario in 1986, where he had since resided. He married Rosa Eola Cowan on Sept. 10, 1911, at McCall. "He was a charter member of the Caldwell Elks Lodge. "Survivors include three sons, George W. Blackwell, Jr. of Vale, James M. Blackwell of Las Vegas, Nev., and Jack Hubbard of Boise; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. His wife, Rosa, and a brother Herman, died earlier.
