Nock, 37, Grangeville, who was swept into the Lochsa River Dec. 23, was found in the millpond at Potlatch Forests, Inc., at 8:40 a.m. yesterday by a PFI employe. Nock had been missing since a slide on the Lewis & Clark Highway 60 miles east of Kooskia pushed him and his bulldozer into the river. He had been attempting to clear snow and mud slides that had stranded motorists the previous day. John Sturman, 909 Burrell Ave., spotted the body near the middle of the log-filled millpond while he was using a company boat. The sheriff's office was notified and Sheriff L.A. Huddleston, Coroner W.J. Duclos and Deputy Sheriffs W. Abe Frye, Walt Heitmann, and Melvin Goins went to the scene. They removed the body from the water. Identification was made by the widow, Mrs. Laura F. Nock of Grangeville, and Mr. and Mrs. Owen S. Smith, also of Grangeville. Nock was an employe of the logging company owned by Smith at the time of his death. He was a heavy equipment operator. Born at Cascade He was born Sept. 24, 1927, at Cascade, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Nock. The elder Nock now lives at Boise. He is a former state senator and presently a member of the Idaho Public Utilities Commission. Nock attended school at Cascade. He served in the Army from 1943 to 1947. He returned to Cascade and remained there until 1951 when he moved to Grangeville. He married Laura F. McCullough there May 8, 1949. He was a member of Mt. Idaho Lodge No. 9 AF & AM, Mt. Queen Lodge No. 11, Order of Eastern Star, Elks Lodge at Grangeville and the Methodist Church. Survivors in addition to his parents and widow include two sons, John H. and Steven G. Nock, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Fawnie Rhett, Lewiston; three sisters, Mrs. Winona Blackburn and Mrs. Melvin Herrick of Cascade and Mrs. Harmon Kimball of Boise; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Laurins Herrick of McCall, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mae Manning of Atascadero, Calif. The body is at Brower-Wann Memorial Chapel. Funeral arrangements are pending.
