K. Scott Dies Saturday Hundreds of Long Valley friends and acquaintances of G. K. Scott were saddened Sunday morning, Sept. 8, when word went around that he had passed away the previous evening at Emmett. Mr. Scott had not been in good health for several years, but his condition was not known to be serious. Four days prior to his death he had gone to Emmett for hospital treatment, and had been discharged from the hospital and was thought to be getting along all right. Mr. Scott was assessor of Valley County at the time of his death, and had ably filled that position for the last 14 years. He was also a former Valley County commissioner serving in that office for four years, from 1922 to 1926. He was born at Louisburg, Kansas on July 8, 1884 coming to Idaho from Powersville, Mo. in 1904. He was therefore 62 years of age at the time of his death and had been a Long Valley resident for the last 42 years. Arriving in Idaho in 1904 he and his father homesteaded in Long Valley, and there Mr. Scott assisted his father in the livestock raising business. In 1912 he was married to Gertrude Elizabeth Coski, on Sept. 12 and to this union were born two daughters, Helen Kay and Eilene Georgia. Mrs. Scott died July 11, 1923. Meantime Mr. Scott's father passed away, and "Kay" as he was known to his many friends, engaged in the merchandise business at Roseberry, later moving his business to Donnelly. He was married to Elsie McDonald on July 23, 1925. Disposing of the store at Donnelly, Mr. Scott farmed again, and for nearly a year he and Mrs. Scott resided at Portland, returning again to Long Valley where they have since resided. He was elected as assessor in 1932. Indicative of the high esteem in which he was held is the fact that he was never defeated for the office, and in fact rarely was he contested for it. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Community Church of Cascade with Rev. John Daly of Emmett delivering the funeral sermon. Burial was at Emmett. Surviving him are his widow, Elsie; two daughters, Mrs. Frank Kreizenbeck and Mrs. Eilene Blackwell; his adopted son Robert K. [sic] Scott; three small grandsons; two sisters, Mrs. Effie Mayer and Mrs. [sic] Elizabeth Scott of Emmett; and two brothers Asa R. Scott of Yreka, Calif., and Leonard Scott of Nampa. G. K. Scott was a fine citizen, a loyal friend and a conscientious public official. His passing leaves a void in the Long Valley community which will be difficult to fill.
